Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family reunion. During this traditional Chinese holiday, besides eating mooncakes, people also organize various cultural and entertainment activities. This is especially true in northern China, where watching and performing operas are long-standing customs. For instance, Peking Opera features many lyrics describing the moon, such as “A bright moon shines before my window” and “The bright moon rises in the east.”
As an opera performer, I participate in grand performances every Mid-Autumn Festival—whether on national TV like CCTV or local broadcasts—and I also sing at gatherings with friends. There’s no fixed repertoire, but I always choose joyful and uplifting pieces. After all, when everyone comes together, reunion itself is the greatest happiness.
